After crushing the Mount Fuji virtual challenge in January, I decided to tackle the Mount Everest challenge for February. This one is 40 miles, and I’m proud to say I completed it in just over two weeks—14 days ahead of schedule! My sisters joined me on some walks, and we even took my dad’s friend’s dogs for a stroll when their owners couldn’t. It made the walks so much more fun and definitely helped me rack up the miles.
One of my favourite parts of these challenges is seeing the street view map of where you would be after each walk if you were actually there. Everest would be incredible to walk one day, but honestly? I’d probably be terrified of freezing!
For this blog, I decided to switch things up and not do a daily update. I’ve set my sights on all 18 challenges and can’t believe I’ve already completed two! I feel really proud of myself for sticking to them and pushing through even on tough days. Not every day is perfect, but I get up, get dressed, pop in my earphones, and go for a walk. Since my PCOS diagnosis, I’ve learned that running endless miles isn’t the way to lose weight. I’m happy knowing I’m making the right changes to my activity and diet while still having fun.
Originally, my goal was to complete one challenge per month, but mileage varies, so I need to be realistic. I’m currently on the Giza Pyramids challenge and have completed 75%—I expect to finish it in about a week. For March, I’ve set myself two challenges. The second half of March will be the Inca Trail, which is 26 miles—roughly 1.8 miles a day for two weeks. Since I like to walk at least 2 miles daily, I know I can do it! I also have my eye on the English Channel medal, another 26-mile challenge, which I hope to swim once gyms reopen.
April’s challenge is Hadrian’s Wall—my biggest yet at 90 miles! I plan to spread it across April and May since 3 miles a day can be tricky with work and life commitments. The challenges increase from there, all the way up to the Route 66 medal at 2,280 miles. My ultimate goal is to complete them all, though obviously the longer challenges will take more months to achieve.
I’ll continue to keep you all updated on my progress—these virtual adventures have been such a blast! I’ve loved using the street view map, and these challenges have motivated me to get out and stay active.
I can’t wait to share my next adventure with you. For now, they’ll remain virtual, but I’m looking forward to the day we can explore in person again—I have so much planned and so much to share!
Take care,
Chloe x
